Sources & Methods is the new group from the minds of Reaganometry (Reagan VanMatre) and Multi-Tracker (Aaron Miller). Reagan VanMatre and Aaron miller, both from Austin, TX.
The pair have been producing electronic and instrumental hip-hop music for the last decade-plus as solo producers. This new collaboration is a balancing act between unique production styles - creating a sound that deftly blends live instruments with elusive sample chops and live looped drum sequences.
Is this a live group? Is it a sample-based beat project? Something More?
All of this wonderment brought to your ears via a two-man operation. Reagan on various keyboards, gtr, baritone and flips; with Aaron on drums, gtr, bass and chops. The album was recorded and mixed by the group at their truck-sized container studio on E. 5th Street, here in Austin. The songs on this record represent the first of a 2-album set they’re releasing.
“The atonement, the beginning, the return. There is nothing, this is everything, a sound, a light, the end again.” - Sun Ra

Singles:
10/27/23: “Five Spice”
Sources & Methods is the new group, born and raised in Austin, TX. and made up of producers, Reaganometry & Multi-tracker. Their sound lies in the past. Think about the tenacity of the Mahavishnu Orchestra meeting up with Bob James for a drink with John Coltrane at Sun Ra’s ARK early in the morning. “Five Spice” is the very somber start to their new self-titled album.
11/10/23 “Queen Shuffle”
Sources & Methods is the new group, born and raised in Austin, TX. and made up of producers, Reaganometry & Multi-tracker. The song “Queen Shuffle” reminds us of Jaco Pastorius and Grant Green screaming over to Max Roach to order “some more of that!”.
This duo combines electronic production with live instrumentation to a degree that is remarkable.
11/24/23 “Murmuration”
Sources & Methods is the new group, born and raised in Austin, TX. and made up of producers, Reaganometry & Multi-tracker. The song “Murmuration” finds this duo fusing sample-based production with live instrumentation giving you something altogether fantastic. Hitting their stride between Bootsy sitting in with CAN and Mtume playing cards with DJ Shadow in the tunnels of Sly’s spot on a wonderful summer day.
